Chapter 12: Igor's Really into Fitness Lately

Although it originally was because of Igor that Malachite wanted to try this, he slowly used the kelp to tie heavy rocks as weights around his flippers, grumbling slightly as he did so. They weren’t exactly something that was easy to tie as he had to use his teeth to gently pull those kelp tight, and holding it with his tail and teeth… Well, lets just leave it as very awkward.

Eventually he managed to get them together and onto his back, tying them onto his flippers and his tail. The kelp dug into his scales, pinching him in various ways, but admittedly, he tried not to think about it. After all, it would only make things worse for him. Sighing gently, he looked up to the roof of the cave which he was in, having a small gap in its roof which the light shone through, able to see small fish swimming on the outside, coral lining the rocks and paired with wispy green strands of kelp.

Looking down to his newly added weights, he nodded to himself pushing himself up. His body twisted and pushed up, trying to get himself clear of the grounds - only to yelp as the kelp which held the rocks to him pulled tight, making him growl. He pushed himself a little further, trying to swim forward like he normally would. The emerald dragon growled softly, pushing himself trying to get further and further up, barely managing to lift those heavy rocks from the yellow sand.

He pushed himself, genuinely trying to get further and further away from the sand, trying to get closer to the roof, only to suddenly yelp. Malachite felt the kelp suddenly bite into his body, pulling painfully against his scales, deeply, almost breaking through, but at the same moment, the pause in struggling against it… Made him lose all of his progress.

Malachite gave a small groan.

Maybe he shouldn’t to do this again, the kelp was too fiddly, the weights were too specific, and trying to swim out of a simple cave with them wrapped around his flippers, body and tail… It felt as if it were almost impossible, especially as the kelp kept just pulling at him, digging into his scales. It was painful and it truly seemed like it shouldn’t be.

Maybe weighted swimming wasn’t for him.

However, short distance speed swimming…

That might be.
