DoA - Drawlloween 2020: Your dream costume concept

Chapter 30: Your dream costume concept

Malachite moved around his surroundings, looking left and right as his maw gently snipped off the kelp from its roots, wrapping it over his back, trying to get as much as he could carry. He’s already gotten the majority of the rest of what he needed, and he moved away, dragging them towards the pile which he had already made several dozen meters away. He smiled, beginning to twist together the kelp and twigs, fashioning the twigs and branches in a way to use the thicker branches as anchoring points for the kelp to hang on to.

Malachite slowly sewed together the kelp and the branches, making sure that they were sturdy and would hold as he decided to use them. Rumbling softly to himself, he slowly began to make these large sail-like creations bigger, wider and longer, the branches and twigs lengthening to almost seem like fingers between the net of sewn kelp. Eventually, it came together, after a few more hours of work, revealing it to be a set of gorgeous wings, which had different shells and items sewn through it.

Malachite gave a rather large grin, already having made the other components of the costume and, finally, he could try it all on together. He carefully took those wings and attached it to a large brace which wrapped around his body, before clipping that across his chest and under his arms to hold it there. He quickly slipped his flippers into another small series of gloves, on all four flippers, victoriously smiling as he felt the gloves take his weight. They themselves were weighed with rather dense rocks, making sure he wasn’t floating too much in the water, allowing him to give a sense of ‘walking’ through the white sands around him.

The wings, unfortunately, couldn’t move on command to give him any propelling force through the waters, but that didn’t matter so much to him. What mattered more was what he looked like and slowly he made his way over to it. To something that would show him if this work, these days and weeks of gathering supplies was worth the effort, or not.

He stood proudly in front of the mirror, gazing down at it, before a wide, victorious smile was coming over his face. It did indeed work. He looked the mirror, absolutely stoked that this had worked.

Malachite truly did look like a large, green dragon! He even had the magic to go with it.
