DoA - Drawlloween 2020: Live Screamer

Chapter 14: Live Screamer

Spessartine and Malachite looked at once another. There was a piercing sound ringing through the water as a strong current ripped through the water. The sound was chilling, making Malachite wince slightly, the feeling of the sound tearing down his spine, making him feel rather uncomfortable. He rumbled softly as Spessartine gently pulled at his flipper, tugging him backwards into the safety of a shallow cave. The current had came over them suddenly, the dark stormy skies above the waters the likely cause.

She laid down, burying her head underneath her flippers and onto the sand, growling slightly as she tried to block out the sounds of whatever was making that screaming sound which carried through the current. It was sharp, almost like having fireworks going off right next to her, something loud, initially sudden, but not going on to be a piercing, droning noise. And unfortunately, her amber flippers weren’t able to block out the sound at all. Instead, she just had to wait it out, suffering partially in silence.

Malachite watched in partial amusement as she tried to cut the sound out, but, he already knew that it wouldn’t work so well. Moving to the rock walls of the cave, he investigated their surfaces, trying to find something, anything, they could use to even take the edge of the noise off. He looked, emerald eyes scouring the surface, but alas, there was nothing that he could find, even after a good ten minutes of searching, with that screeching noise vibrating in his skull.

With a groan, he gave up, moving towards Spessartine once more as he laid down next to her, giving a heavy grumbling sound as he did so. Taking advantage of the fact that she was already hiding from the noise and laying down, he moved himself over to them, wrapping his flippers around her leg and hiding his head against her flipper.

In return, she gave a small grumble, “Don’t always expect me to tolerate this.”

The warning didn’t go on deaf ears and he nodded, giving a small rumble in return, just trying to wait out both the wild waters and the screaming thing.

Several hundred meters away from them there was such a rather unusual sight to see. A small, glowing slug-like creature was definitely not enjoying the weather. Unfortunately for it, it was on top of a large, flat rock, and it wasn’t able to even find some form of shelter. Almost in revenge, the weird creature decided to make a very weird noise, something hollow and bone chilling… All for the sake of defending itself.
