DoA - Drawlloween 2020: Creature of the Black Legume

Chapter 3: Creature of the Black Legume

Spessartine hummed softly, swimming casually through the currents of the water, the kelp brushing over her flippers as she moved forward. Tilting her head slightly, she watched a few small, orange and white stripped fish swim by, only to duck into a small... Spongy creature she had yet to learn the name of. Giving a small shrug, she turned her attention back to where she was swimming - although, there wasn't much to see. She didn't even know where she was going...

After a while of humming and swimming through those kelp, something caught her eye on the ocean floor. She turned her head to look, pulling herself to a halt as she watched, slightly moving to and fro with the currents, on the yellow sand, surrounded by various tall rocks... Was a large, black object.

It almost looked like a bean.

Tilting her head to the side, she slowly pushed herself through the currents, pulling herself up near the bean, rumbling softly. Curiously. She'd been keeping an eye out for anyone nearby through her travels and she had not spied a single soul.

So why was this big bean out in the middle of nowhere?

Curiosity got the better of her as she moved towards it, cautiously approaching the black, shimmering object, her nose slowly moving that much more forward to sniff at the object. It almost smelled... Familiar.

There was a small rustle of movement caught her by surprise, before her face drained of all colour.

A creature burst forth from the abnormally large bean, a loud roar of anger coming from them. Spessartine yelped in terror, reeling backwards before she dove down, shaking in fear as she hid in the cover of the rock, watching with terrified, wide eyes as the monster pushed away through the coverings of that legume, hide a thick, mottled black, their greenish eyes seemingly glowing with fury.

Their body phased through as they looked around, their heavy appearance moving, seemingly furious with the world, saliva dripping from their fangs. Spessartine gave the softest of whimpers as she tried to hide behind that rock a little bit more, but the movement, the shimmering of her spines, drew the attention of the beast.

With a horrifically loud shriek, it dove forward, Spessartine yelping in surprise and fear as a heavy thud sounded, something hitting the rock near her head. It loomed over her, her form shaking as she looked up into the eyes of the monster...

Only for confusion to cross over her face, staring at the Aqrion before her.

"Have you learned your lesson?" They asked, a small, smug look on his face, Spessartine looking surprised, her red eyes widening, stunned.

The black, murky Aqrion chortled, "Don't mess with black legumes... Anything can happen with them. You're lucky this was merely an act... There's worse than I who have been theorised to come out of there."

Spessartine frowned, the fear slowly turning from worry into utter confusion, those words, the tone of voice.

Suddenly, the worry, anxiety, outright fear vaporised - only to turn into a mix of pure, undiluted rage and anger which took the shape of a single word that shook the very rock she hid behind, caused the nearby fish to scatter and flee, the kelp to be blown backwards by her rage.
