DoA - Drawlloween 2020: Batatouille

Chapter 17: Batatouille

Malachite tugged on Spessartine’s fin, a very wide grin on his face. “Come on, we don’t have too much time to wait.”

The amber dragon looked at him suspiciously, following him slowly through the thick kelp forest, fish and small aquatic life darting around them. The light flickered off the surface of the leafy kelp as she followed him, the scenario suspiciously similar to something which had happened previously, seemingly just a handful of days or week ago. “Are you sure that I should trust you this time…? I still don’t believe that you have nice intentions out of this trip…”

Spessartine’s eyes narrowed, while Malachite flashed a grin to her over his shoulder, trying to hide his smirk. “You should trust me, after all, I did have to sign that treaty of yours.”

Malachite teased lightly, “Don’t worry so much, I have something in mind this time that I think you will enjoy.”

Spessartine suppressed a small groan, but continued to follow him, feeling as if she were going against her better judgement.

But what Malachite had in mind for her was something much different than a simple, easy and something that was nice for her. There was a new place which had set up shop in a nice, glowing cave, something which had only happened once for a few weeks every year. They had been preparing and trying to master a dish, something that they spent all year gathering supplies for, ensuring that they had the best ingredients, which were from all over the ocean, but over the course of these few weeks they were open for, they prepared their specialty dish.

Batatouille was its name.

“Honestly little Spessy, I think that you’re going to enjoy this meal quite a lot.” He said with a surprisingly gentle tone to his voice. It caught Spessartine by surprise, making her stop for a moment before his tail slightly tugged at his flipper, encouraging her to swim forward again, following him once more.

“I’m taking you to a place which is illuminated by glowing crystals and strands of bioluminescent kelp, sewn together with shells and stones. But that’s not what I wanted to show you, the amazing part is their meal. It’s delicious, seafoods, fish, squid, seaweeds and a variety of kelp taken all over the ocean, put together into a spiral, layered meal, which is too delicious for mere words to describe…” Malachite mumbled softly, tenderly explaining it to her, trying to explain it to her, to which she chuckled as he led her to a mouth of the cave, hidden by dangling kelp, shell strings and other various, beautifully crafted ornaments.

He stopped for a few moments there, using a flipper to pull away the curtains. “Ladies first.”

After she had entered, he followed suit, before she stopped, gasping softly as she looked over the cavern, a decorated hole in the roof allowing light to shine through, landing directly on a small picture of the meal that he wanted her to try, something that looked incredibly nice. She chuckled, smiling softly, “That looks like… it’s going to be delicious…” She murmured, falling silent as she gazed upon it, Malachite giving a small smile.

“Trust me… It is… You’re going to love this Batatouille, it’s a lovely dinner choice.” He rumbled, before taking her down into the restaurant, wanting her to enjoy the scrumptious meal soon.

And enjoy it she thoroughly would.
